Our 12 dedicated UK healthcare facilities meet EN 14065 standards for bio-contamination control and are fully compliant with processing requirements for HTM 01-04 Decontamination of linen for health and social care.
As a key NHS laundry services provider, we offer hospital bed linen rental and bath linen hire as well as staff uniform, scrub suits, patient wear and a range of additional hygiene solutions including floor care.
Our healthcare laundry solutions and hospital laundry services also incorporate dedicated on-site management, providing an efficient and responsive service to support you as you look after your patients.

Quality and compliance
Elis has a unique advantage in terms of having an in-house microbiological testing laboratory UKAS accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. This carries out a range of activities and investigations in support of EN 14065, demonstrating due diligence through scheduled factory monitoring and ensuring the products we supply consistently meet quality and hygiene standards.

Machine Wash Programme Performance
Confirmation that the washing processes meet the ‘thermal disinfection’ requirements described in HTM 01-04 through the application of ISO 14698

Staff Hygiene
Assessment of staff hand hygiene by hand swabbing, showing the absence of indicator and pathogen species that may lead to product re-contamination

Environmental Monitoring
Monitoring of housekeeping in laundries through surface swabbing (and air quality where appropriate) to show that cleaning and sanitisation processes are being effectively operated by the absence of indicator and pathogen species

Rinse Water Testing
Assessment of the impact of rinse waters in reintroducing contamination post-wash, as proposed by HTM 01-04, through microbial monitoring of indicator and pathogen species

Bioburden Analysis
Final product microbial quality, whereby a range of indicator and pathogen species are confirmed as having been removed by the laundering process and no re-contamination has occurred post-wash

A more sustainable approach
Elis is committed to sustainability and has been a circular economy player for over 75 years. Our business model prioritises rental over purchase, and the services we offer provide a sustainable alternative to linear models. This helps to minimise resource consumption, reduce emissions generated and lower our customers’ carbon footprint.
We have set a target to reduce or reuse 80 per cent of end-of-life textiles by 2025. As part of our ongoing Healthcare Textile Improvement Programme, our Linen Return Profile (LRP) initiative is designed to deliver improved environmental performance, enhanced service levels and better value.
This is expected to have a significant impact on Trusts’ carbon reduction levels on the journey to net zero, while also enhancing linen availability.
Reaching a new level as a sustainable supplier
We are pleased to have completed the NHS Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment. The Assessment is a self-assessment and reporting tool and resulted in Elis receiving a Level 2: Comprehensive net zero targets and reporting for carbon emissions. This is key to supporting us to understand how we align to the NHS’s long term sustainability priorities and the pathway to progress.

We have an excellent working relationship with the team at Elis Southampton. They understand our organisation and work hard to ensure that we have the best quality linen and laundry available to make our patients feel comfortable while they are with us. As well as providing our clean laundry, Elis has worked with us on projects to reduce the use of plastics which are widely used in the delivery and collection of laundry. We have worked to eradicate plastic wrapped deliveries and now have all of our linen and laundry delivered in washable cage liners, and are now working with them to reduce the bags used to return dirty laundry.
