Having worked with some well-known laundry suppliers in London for many years, it’s been refreshing to work with a supplier of Elis’ professionalism and quality. It was important that we streamlined our invoices and supply chain to remove complexity. Laundry and washroom services have historically taken time to manage. However, Elis has delivered on its commitments and caused no disruption to our operations during the transition.

Suez is a sustainable company, and we recognise that to be truly sustainable we need the support of our supply chain. Our Supplier Awards recognise some of our best suppliers that have helped us achieve our aims and we were impressed that Elis was able to deliver solutions that were aligned to our sustainability values. Being at the forefront of the sustainability agenda, we also commend Elis’s goal to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions.

We hadn’t originally considered alternative suppliers for our hygiene and medical waste services. However, when Elis visited to carry out a site survey we were impressed by the quality, frequency and consistency of service they could offer. The company also has a compelling corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy which is aligned with many of our own values in terms of our ethos and commitment to the environment, and this was another key selling point.

Elis has delivered a full workwear and laundry service in line with our requirements, organising the design, manufacturing, and branding of the garments with embroidery to our agreed specification which no other supplier was able to match.

We have worked with Elis Laundry for over 23 years now and they have consistently delivered outstanding services which play a vital role in ensuring our customers receive the high standards that they expect and deserve from us. The whole team at Kendal have a very personal approach and a ‘nothing is too much trouble attitude’, they provide a very friendly, professional and efficient service, often at short notice and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

From the start of the onboarding process with Elis we have been looked after extremely well. I have had regular contact with Josh and my team have always had efficient communication with Anne, both restoring my confidence in the laundry supply process. The quality of linen is higher than previously experienced too and, being so local to us deliveries and supply are very simple.

I’ve worked with Elis on a number of previous contracts, and have always found them to offer good value for money, as well as being easily contactable and having an in-depth understanding of our customers’ needs. In the 15 years I have known Elis I have never had an issue with stock. If there are items we need more of, then Elis will do their best to get them to me urgently - and they have not failed yet! The contract mobilisation was seamless, and all deadlines and deliveries were met.

We have an excellent working relationship with the team at Elis Southampton. They understand our organisation and work hard to ensure that we have the best quality linen and laundry available to make our patients feel comfortable while they are with us. As well as providing our clean laundry, Elis has worked with us on projects to reduce the use of plastics which are widely used in the delivery and collection of laundry. We have worked to eradicate plastic wrapped deliveries and now have all of our linen and laundry delivered in washable cage liners, and are now working with them to reduce the bags used to return dirty laundry. We consider Elis as part of our family, and value their support.

Over the past decade, our Trust has consistently relied on Elis for its expertise in wash and return laundry services and, more recently, we have extended this service to our community hospitals. We have continually been impressed with the team’s professionalism, knowledge, efficiency and effectiveness. Recently, we underwent some innovations, and Elis supported us fully, enabling us to deliver cost-effective solutions and achieve outstanding results. Their unwavering commitment ensures our patients receive the high-quality service they deserve.

Over recent months, a number of other Trusts have made the switch from disposable to multi-use products out of necessity. However, this was something we had already initiated prior to the outbreak of Coronavirus, it proved to be an excellent move as it got us through the national shortage of PPE and avoided the price increases seen on single use. The team at Elis were able to successfully implement the roll-out of multi-use products during the first wave of the pandemic. We are pleased with the outcome. Many of our consultants and staff have responded positively to the switch, and we have benefited from cost savings due to the fact we are able to reclaim VAT on these reusable products.

As well as helping to ensure continuity of supply, the reusable gowns are expected to deliver considerable financial and environmental savings. The forecasted reduction in clinical waste is approximately 8 tonnes per year, resulting in an annual saving of around £3,000.00. This represents an overall saving of 22% on previous disposable products, while enabling the Trust to operate more sustainably.

The NHS contributes to 4-5% of total carbon emissions in the UK. Operating theatres are particularly energy intensive, with a single procedure estimated to generate carbon emissions equivalent to driving 450 miles in an average petrol car. The Greener Theatres checklist published by the four Royal Colleges of Surgeons in the UK and Ireland highlights reusable gowns as an effective means of reducing the environmental impact of operating theatres, and we are therefore keen to implement the switch to more sustainable surgical textiles within our facilities.
